Scholardome was formally established in May 2017. Sally has 10 years tutoring and James has 12 years experience in tutoring. Collectively we have over 20 years of tutoring experience.

Prior to starting the business, we saw that there was a real lack of effective English tuition as most tuition primarily focused on rote learning that unnecessarily stretched topics without honing what was actually needed to improve their learning; students are fed what to think and write without actually learning how to think and write. There was also a mismatch between education in tutoring settings and in practice; tuition places a focus primarily on scores and test results, not on essential writing skills for their future. We believe that while school results are important, essential writing and communication skills that will be essential for their future shouldn’t be compromised (please see English Mastery section on our website). We understand the gravity of a teacher’s role in nurturing students and are willing to challenge the status quo. Education has been largely taught the same way for the last century and we see a myriad of ways to improve students’ outcomes, rewiring the delivery of exceptional lessons and educational content.

We aim to pioneer English Education in NSW and our mission is to make learning meaningful so that we can equip and prepare all students not only for their Selective exams and HSC but for their future – so that they can be critical thinkers and articulate communicators.

Salina Yoon

Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws (USYD)

Salina has been teaching students in both primary and high school (K-12) for over 10 years.  With years of teaching students how to craft an essay and developing their penchant for creative writing, Salina knows how to tailor lessons to best suit students’ individual needs and learning styles.

Salina’s teaching philosophy is to place a strong emphasis on making lessons engaging and comprehensible while accelerating students with textual analysis and essay writing, helping students to communicate more effectively and eloquently. She is an avid bibliophile, sci-fi/fantasy novel and film enthusiast and a bit of a Greek and Roman mythology buff.

Salina graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from the University of Sydney and worked as a consultant at a top international professional services firm while continuing her passion for teaching students.

James Yoon

Bachelor of Laws & Bachelor of Commerce (MQ) (Merit Scholar & Macquarie University Merit Scholarship Recipient)

James found his passion for teaching and mentoring students in high school when he worked as a peer tutor during years 10- 12 to help students read and write, and scribe for HSC examinations through peer tutoring and mentoring programs. Since then, James has taught English in one-on-one and small group settings to a vast array of public, private and top selective schools in NSW for over 12 years.

James has an uncanny ability to engage students and break down key concepts and complex ideas in an understandable and relatable way and has helped students to not only make dramatic improvements but find a greater appreciation of English through his unique teaching methodologies. He nurtures students to think interpretively, creatively and critically and helps students to learn effectively – bridging the gap between academic theory and practical application in both written and spoken assessments.

James graduated with a Bachelor of Laws with the Bachelor of Commerce as a Merit Scholar (Merit List) at Macquarie University and was the recipient of the Macquarie University Merit Scholarship; Macquarie University’s highest undergraduate university scholarship for academic merit. He is admitted as a solicitor in NSW and has worked as a lawyer and consultant at a top international professional services firm prior to founding Scholardome to pursue his passion for education.
