You’ve probably noticed that reading a captivating book at home is a world away from tackling a chunky extract in a nerve-wracking examination room. Our reading comprehension tutorials prepare students to experience the rigours of analysing a text in a test situation like reading a relaxing book at home. As English specialists, we know what works and what doesn’t. Students analyse a vast range of texts in exam conditions to develop the flexibility needed in their comprehension skills on a variation of topics and texts. Whether it's a long story about a thrilling intergalactic adventure or an informative report about the wonders of the animal kingdom, students won’t need to panic. Our classes are specifically designed to focus on improving the students’ comprehension skill sets while nurturing an early passion for English.

Students learn the three advanced forms of writing required to build strong foundations for English: Imaginative/Narrative, Persuasive/Discussion and Informative. They are given a variety of writing prompts in exam style prompts, that exercise the limits of their creativity, and fully challenge them to think beyond the norms of traditional writing. We go beyond what is required to ensure that students can enhance their writing prowess. Detailed feedback is provided on the students’ work each tutorial, as the tutors thoroughly construct feedback and comment on each student's individual areas for improvement so that they can craft a beautiful piece of writing; vivid narratives, persuasive arguments, and enlightening informational pieces.

In our extensive vocabulary tutorials, students not only memorise a wide range of vocabulary but are accustomed to the full and appropriate usage of each word, that it becomes fully a part of their own dictionary. This is what we call mastery. In order to achieve this word mastery, students participate in a myriad of carefully constructed vocabulary activities that strengthen their judgement of when and where to appropriately use the newly learned words, and to improve their spelling, grammatical and punctuation skills.

Without literary devices, words on the page are merely walking. Our classes help students to recognise how words can dance on the page and come alive. The devices bedazzle the story, the devices that breathe life into characters, turning characters from strangers to knowing their innermost thoughts. Students are taught from the very foundation of how to recognise and anlayse these language devices and forms and features, all by themselves. From simile, to metaphor, to personification to descriptive imagery, to perhaps even a motif, students analyse a variety of text types to enhance the flexibility of their analytical skills; an imperative skill to carry on to their future years of the English journey.

Scholardome students will have exclusive access to our Online Learning Portal; a gateway to further enhance their skills through weekly homework beyond the classroom setting. Students are given homework each week to solidify the content that they have learned during class. Homework assignments generally include vocabulary, reading skills and writing practice. The homework is thoroughly marked by the teacher in the next tutorial and detailed feedback is given back to the students to work on for their future tasks and in-class activities.
