Accelerated English Group

Our Accelerated English Groups are designed to help students to analyse texts in depth and develop important critical writing skills needed to write conceptually complex and cohesive essays, creative writing and written responses. We thoroughly focus on these vital skills that will aid students’ in transitioning to become more confident in the deeper analysis and interpretation of complex text that is required from their senior years of high school. Our Accelerated English Group consists of 2 hour weekly tutorials, and support for weighted school English assessments and examinations.

What's in The Tutorials?

Our Year 9 English Courses are weekly two-hour Accelerated English Tutorials. In our Accelerated English Group, students will:

  • write exceptional analytical essays with advanced expressions, sophisticated analysis and clarity;
  • analyse senior advanced texts and engage critically with textual studies;
  • generate creative, complex and unique ideas; and
  • effectively use a wide range of advanced forms and features, and language techniques in creative writing, discursive writing and persuasive writing.

These are the skills required to excel in senior high school English. Building these skills from an earlier stage enables students to transition into senior high school English, and become familiarised with the analytical writing style required to excel in English.

Support During Assessment Periods

Students can seek help from tutors with their school assignments or upcoming in class exams outside of tutorials, and the tutors give students tailored feedback and advice for their written drafts to help them achieve their best. Further, in preparation for major examinations, our lessons are tailored so that students can practise specific writing and reading skills for tests in class under timed conditions. Whatever questions and uncertainties students have about their upcoming exams, the experienced tutors can guide them through, step by step, and foster greater confidence for their exams. 

Our Students get the best of both worlds; specific written practice and learning during class, and individual assessment preparation help outside of class.

Accelerated Learning

Our classes extend beyond the set curriculum for year 9, as the vast difference between good and great writing is hidden in the student’s ability to make their unique ideas stand out and fashion it in a logical and cohesive form. In our Accelerated Group Tutorials, students meticulously learn how to craft an effective structure with advanced expressions for their analytical essay writing, imaginative, persuasive and discursive writings.

We teach not only the ‘what’, but the ‘why’ and ‘how’ so that students will be equipped with not just an understanding of concepts and ideas, but the confidence to write effectively. Taking a step further to analyse meanings in texts that may have not been spotted before, we broaden the platform in which students can write freely and articulate their own unique voice.

Sophisticated Textual Analysis

Students study a variety of texts from an array of literary genres and media. Going beyond the analysis skills they have learnt at school, our specialist tutors provide students with the best mastery of textual analysis in all areas of literature.

Critical Thinking and Exam Skills

As students approach their senior years, the year 9 Accelerated Group Tutorials are designed to accustom them to the certain skills required for exam conditions in the senior years. One of the biggest problems is that students don’t write as much as they ought to at school. It’s like going to a swimming lesson in preparation for a race and intellectualising swimming, without actually jumping into the pool and doing the most important thing; to swim. While theory work is powerful and important, it must be measured with actual writing. It’s hard work – we know. We pay attention to even the minor details that cumulatively have a significant impact. Ultimately, it’s not just about whether a student can write well, but whether they can write well under time pressure. Our Accelerated English Groups are challenging, but we do what’s difficult so that thinking, articulating and writing becomes easy.

Students in preparation are taught to: 
  • write complex expressions with clarity within a limited amount of time;
  • extrapolate large texts for effective adaptation during on-the-spot writing;
  • analyse difficult unseen extract or image on the spot;
  • address and adapt to unseen questions and writing stimulus;
  • think clearly in a high pressure environment; 
  • speed write while thinking simultaneously; and 
  • build legible handwriting skills for markers to read (this is more important than students would think).

These complimentary lessons are to encourage consistent and continuous learning throughout the holidays for all our students.
